3 most pampering Spa experiences

Our quest to find the most relaxing, pampering treatments led us to discovering these unusual spa experiences in Asia Tibetan TLC  We’re only three months into 2012 and it’s already been a good one for destination spa, Ananda in the Himalayas. The luxury spa has picked up two Conde Nast Traveler awards for 2012 – Number One Spa in the World and Best Overseas Spa Retreat – and one from Travel + Leisure India & South Asia for Best Destination Spa in India.   One spa treatment offered at Ananda, a regular fixture on magazines’ ‘best spa’ lists, is the Tibetan spa experience. Each experience begins with the sounding of the Tibetan ting shaw, small cymbals engraved with Tibetan calligraphy, which clear negative energy. A special pillow with the image of Buddha on the cover (and filled with Himalayan herbs) and Tibetan incense also work to create a sense of balance and relaxation. The oil massage, performed Tibetan therapists, is aimed at balancing the 5 elements and restores a harmonious flow of energy and vitality. Moonlit Massage Sounds kinky? It’s not. Really. At the Spa Alila at the Alila Ubud in Bali, therapists are ‘drawing on the energy of the moon’ in its new and full phases to help guests relax. The idea is to conduct spa sessions outside, in the Alila Ubud’s Sculpture Garden, in a custom spa tent. The four therapies, which are only available on the first and 15th day of the lunar month, are conducted on the banks of the Ayung River. Each session begins with a cup of herbal tea and ends with healing through Reiki. Me Time Who wouldn’t want some? The Lux resorts in the Indian Ocean are working on a fun Me Spa concept that focuses on flexibility. So instead of picking a pre-determined treatment, a guest can stretch or cut down on the time a therapist spends on each part of the treatment. So they might, for example, choose a 15 minute body scrub, a 45 minute massage, and a 30 minute facial, depending on their own preference. But what sounds more fun id the Spa Privé option at the Lux hotels. It’s involves calling for room-service style spa kits, with instructions on how to perform certain treatments. It certainly gives rise to romantic possibilities, no?
